Do’s and Don’ts For Uplifting Your Upholstery
Why should we care about our upholstery? The answer is that we’re able to have visitors round again and reunite with family and friends for the summer of football.
No doubt many of us will have spilt tea or coffee on a cream sofa which can leave a stain or two on our living room furniture.
Having guests in our living room is a luxury these days. But no-one wants to sit in a filthy chair or on a disgusting sofa. Here are some do’s and don’ts for making your upholstery cleaner.
DO – Try To Act Fast
The quicker you clean your furniture after spilling something, the easier it will be to remove a stain. Leave it too long and they’ll dry and set into the upholstery fabric. As obvious as it sounds, stains become harder to remove if they’re left.
DON’T – Ignore Cleaning Codes
You know those labels on the underside? See what they say as this is a guide to what should be used to clean it. W means water-based cleaner, S means solvent-based cleaner, but watch out for the X. This means only a professional cleaning company like CBS Cleaning should tackle it.
DO – Test An Area First
The last thing you want to do is cause further damage to your upholstery fabric. Whatever cleaning solution you decide to use, you should test it on an area first. It might be worth testing it out on a more ‘secluded’ part.
DON’T – Use Harsh Chemicals
Harsh and unpleasant chemicals are a classic example of using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. As well as being better for the environment, homemade solutions such as vinegar and bicarbonate soda won’t ruin your upholstery.
DO – Use A Vacuum
A vacuum cleaner is one of the most important tools you need for upholstery cleaning. You should use one to clean off any crumbs or dust before you start treating a stain. When you’re done, it’s an idea to run the hoover over your furniture again.
DON’T – Start In The Middle
Tempting as this is, you could end up making it worse if you begin tackling a stain at its centre point. This is why you should start off at the outer edges and work your way in. The stain is most concentrated in the middle.
